Board Considers School Calendar For 2025-2026

The Union Board of Education on first reading considered a proposed calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board will consider approval during the second reading at the next Board meeting on March 10.

The calendar, which closely mirrors this year’s calendar, calls for the first day of school to start August 14 with the last day tentatively set for May 27, 2026, with five snow days built into the calendar. There are also two virtual days – one on October 15 and another on April 2, 2026 – where students will complete assignments at home while teachers are involved in collaboration and training. If no snow days are used, the last day of school would be May 19.

Early Release Fridays will also continue under the proposed calendar for next year.

The public may email comments about the calendar to board@unionps.org.

Board Approves Bond Resolution

The Union Board of Education approved a resolution authorizing the sale of $37.5 million in general obligation bonds as part of the district bond package which was approved in February 2023.

The bonds will pay for a number of planned capital improvement projects, including work at the Union 6th/7th Grade Center. For a progress report on the district’s bond work, visit the Bond 2025 Update page under the About/Planning section at www.unionps.org.

In other action, the Board:

  • Accepted a bid from Shoemaker Mechanical for $235,405 to upgrade fire suppression hoods at six Union school sites that have been in place since 1979. The upgrades include new chemical discharge systems, a shunt trip circuit breaker and emergency gas shut-off valves.
  • Accepted a bid from Vision Air Services, LLC., to replace the High School Mammoth Unit RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) for $578,341. This project will provide two 25-ton air handling units on one of the old sections of the High School. The two Mammoth units being replaced were installed in 1979 and are well beyond their service life and are in need of replacement, according to Dr. Josh Robinson, director of Operations. The new units incorporate all the latest technology associated with energy exchange cooling and heating using hydronic HVAC systems.
